a) Temple of Jerusalem

b) Need to Convert

Jesus spoke insistently about the mercy of God. God’s mercy had its effect, especially the fact that God didn’t want the sinner to die, but instead wanted the sinner to repent and to live. Jesus established the sacrament of confession for this reason.

As Jesus knew we were sinners, he asked us to convert from our bad behaviour and to live according to the teachings that he would be giving us.

c) Beatitudes

Jesus started a new law, one of charity, thus overcoming fear and the simple external fulfilment of some precepts.

The spirit of the beatitudes is about having a voluntary decision to love God and our neighbour. To everyone who lives according to these eight beatitudes, Jesus promises happiness and joy, here in this world and for all eternity.

Blessed are: the poor, those who mourn, the meek, those who hunger and thirst for justice, the merciful, the clean of heart, the peacemakers and those who are persecuted because they do what God requires.

d) Parables of the Kingdom of God

In many different parables, God spoke about the kingdom of God, already present here on earth (as it was created by him), but which will reach its definitive peak in heaven.

The kingdom of God, which started out being very small, has spread all over the earth through the Church.

The kingdom of God is like a treasure, whose ownership implies leaving behind all things. It’s like a banquet, which all sinners have been invited to, but they must change and live out the beatitudes. It’s like a field where wheat has been planted, but where weeds grow too, or like a net which catches all kinds of fish, good and bad.

We must enter God’s kingdom, i.e. become one of his disciples, in order to know his mysteries and to be able to save ourselves.
